The Ranks

Well, I have now joined the maple syrup-making ranks. I have three trees tapped.

And that's all thanks to Lee. He, Mel and Bailey came over after work today. I really wasn't sure if my maples were the "appropriate" maples(Acer saccharum) or not ... but Lee tapped them and they are flowing!

Mum thought the sap was for Lee ... she didn't realize that it was for us. Now she's kind of intimidated because we have to boil it. Funny, that's the part that doesn't bother me.

Anniversary

Today is the anniversary of the death of six CFB Gagetown soldiers. They died one year ago, when they struck a roadside bomb.

The next post is a tribute video. I know when Anita sent it to me a year and a half ago, I sent it on to some of you. This video is very moving ... which is why I decided to post it today - to honour our fallen soldiers.

And to end with something lighter:

As I was driving down Smythe Street Saturday afternoon, I saw the funniest bumper sticker. It was on a veteran's truck. It said:

If you don't stand behind our troops ...
... feel free to stand in front of them.

I got a good laugh out of that one.
