Trying out a new look. Isn't my kitty something else?

What eats to live, but never drinks.

March Monthly Challenge

I think it turned out pretty fan-flippin-tastic!
Except for the triangular button in the flower. I am going to replace that with a brad.

Weather Rant

What the hell is with this weather? I gotta say, I'm not impressed. Sure it's warm. To the point you can wear a spring jacket.

BUT DAMN IT! That means all the snow in my backyard has melted into my BASEMENT! And that all sand and mud around my deck are in my KITCHEN!

You should see my washing room ... it's so tidy. Not a thing on the floor. Because it's all in the storage room that has a subfloor! Or it's sitting in the finished part of the basement that has a subfloor(perilously close to mini hands that always want to get into everything)! Or it went into the garbage because it was sopping wet with dirty melted snow water! Oh, and don't get me started on the front freakin walkway that floods every year with 6" of water because of the concrete blocks that have sunk into the ground.

I get up this morning and I can barely see the cedars at the end of my backyard ... it's so damn foggy. Which means more melting! I can now see grass around the perimeter of my house, the fence, the shed, and all the trees. Of course, most of that grass happens to be under 3" of water.

Why can't we just go from cold and snow to warm and DRY? Huh?

I can tell you now ... this summer will see a dump truck full of gravel in my driveway ... I am covering every spare inch of prospective mud around my deck with gravel. It's going to be an expensive summer ... we have to fix the walkway, replace the gutters, and replace all the basement windows.

Would it be terrible to say that I wish this house would go up in a blaze?

By the way, if you feel the need to grant my fondest wish, just give me a little warning so I can pack up my scrapbooking supplies.

Slice of Reality

I read an article on luncheon/deli meats yesterday that actually shocked me. Or rather, certain parts did. I thought I would share some of the pertinent facts.

All the following amounts are based on a Canada's Food Guide serving of deli meat, which is 2-3oz.

Ham is made from the hind led of the pig. It is usually wet or brine cured.
Ham:163 cals, 9 g fat, 1304 mg sodium
Extra-lean Ham: 110 cals, 3 g fat, 1106 mg sodium

Roast Beef and Poultry are typically bland. Note to all the parents out there ... kids are likely to spurn these meats is introduced to spicier meats like pepperoni and salami.
Roast Turkey: 99 cals, 2g fat, 966 mg sodium
Roast Chicken: 128 cals, 5.6 g fat, 1196 mg sodium
Roast Beef: 110 cals, 3 g fat, 150 mg sodium

Pastrami is made from beef brisket and usually cured and smoked.
Pastrami: 146 cals, 6 g fat, 885 mg sodium

Corned Beef is called this because in the past, beef was preserved with "corns" or grains of salt. It's typically chopped, pressed and packed.
Corned Beef: 251 cals, 19 g fat, 1134 mg sodium

Bologna is actually the cheap knockoff of the sausage of Bologna, Italy. It's made from a mixture of meats. The chicken and turkey vesions are usually lower in fat.
Bologna: 272 cals, 23 g fat, 1120 mg sodium

Pepperoni is a kid favourite ... and a little can go a long way.
Pepperoni: 466 cals, 40 g fat, 1788 mg sodium

Salami is considered to be a garlic sausage-style meat.
Salami: 258 cals, 22 g fat, 1140 mg sodium

I always knew that pepperoni and salmi weren't good for you, but I didn't realise they were that bad. The sodium aspect of it is staggering considering that the daily recommended intake of sodium for an adult and children over 4 is 2400 mg.

Is it going around?

I too am blogged out, at the moment. It's not like I haven't done anything in the last week worth blogging about, but I just haven't had the drive to type it out.

I will post one layout though. It's February's challenge.

It was definitely a departure for me .... but I liked how it turned out.

Riddle me this, riddle me that. Who's afraid of the big bad bat?

And on to another topic ... Epicure ... any one want to book a party? If you do, let me know! Remember, as one of my first six hostesses, you are guaranteed a 1/2 price item with a qualifying party of $250. If you were to reach the $500 sales level, you would receive TWO 1/2 price items. Trust me, it's not that difficult to acheive.

Also, at Mel's party, I mentioned doing a hostess group starting in May. If you wanted to sign up, e-mail me at and I will add you to the list ... there are 12 spots and if I heard correctly, my promoter, Nick, has filled most of them already. If you want further details, please feel free to e-mail me and I will send them to you.
