TV Trial Part 3

I'll get right to it! Wednesday's shows...Can we say interesting?

CSI:NY
A RETURNING CBS show that everyone must know by now. This really isn't a show I follow religiously. I LOVE Gary Sinise. I think he's one of the greatest actors out there. And I really like the rest of the cast. With one exception: Melina Kanakaredes. There's just something about her. I find she detracts from the show. Even so, they usually have fairly good storylines and the premiere was no exception. T'was very good...Michael Nouri guest starred (think Flashdance).
Jericho
A NEW CBS show about a small town that witnesses a nuclear explosion in Denver from their Kansas backyards. At first they think it was an accident, but soon find out that other major cities have been wiped out, as well. I won't say the show was good. Good isn't the right kind of word to use. It was almost chilling. Really strikes a chord. Very engaging. Stars Skeet Ulrich (Scream), Gerald McCraney (Simon & Simon, Major Dad). Now whether I will keep watching this show will depend on the next few episodes. I would recommend giving it a watch.
Dancing With The Stars
Didn't I just do that for Tuesdays? Yes I did. But this is the results show. After you've watched all the couples dance their hearts out, ya gotta watch the results show to find out who is booted out! And they always feature a professional dance couple to show an upcoming dance and musical talent. Last week it was Tom Jones. And who doesn't love Tom Jones? This week it was Julio Iglesias. I, of course, would recommend this show!
Justice
A NEW FOX show about the law firm TNT&G. Stars Victor Garber (Alias), Kerr Smith (Dawson's Creek). Every episode is about a new case, a new client and how they go about getting their client off. At the end of every episode, they show exactly what happened, exactly how the crime occured. Takes less than two minutes. But those are two minutes you are holding your breath, hoping they didn't just get a killer set free or see an innocent client sent to jail. I would highly recommend this show to everyone.
Criminal Minds
A RETURNING CBS show about the Behavioural Analysis Unit of the FBI - a group of 7 agents that all bring a different talent to the table. They profile and hunt down rapists and murderers. Stars Mandy Patinkin (Chicago Hope, Yentl), Thomas Gibson (Dharma & Greg), Shemar Moore (The Young & The Restless), AJ Cook (Higher Ground). For those that like crime shows, this one is right up your alley. I personally love this show. Keeps you hooked the entire time, which is rare for an hour long drama. Recommend, recommend, recommend!
Kidnapped
A NEW NBC show. The son of a wealthy NY family is kidnapped. Instead of calling the feds (which they were warned not to do), the father (Timothy Hutton) calls in a private "negotiation" team. The negotiator's goal? To return the victim to the family and kill the kidnappers. Unfortuantely, the FBI does get involved, as Agent Latimer's (Delroy Lindo) friend Virgil (Bubba, from Forrest Gump) was the boy's bodyguard and was wounded in the kidnapping. Now the game is on. Who did it? How can they get their son back? Who can they trust? I guess, after seeing the cliffhanger ending, that we won't find out until the end of the season.

And that's it. I can't wait for Grey's Anatomy tonight! I know I 'm going to spend it crying for Denny and Izzy!

TV Trial Part 2

Tuesday night is a good night. Not too, too busy. But some great shows. And, after reading Princess' comment, I can see we're going to disagree on one show in particular.

Law & Order:SVU
A RETURNING NBC show that everyone must know by now! Well, it was a bit of a surprise last night! Olivia (played by Mariska Hargitay - daughter of Jayne Mansfield, by the way) is GONE!!!!! She made an appearance in last night's show and now she's undercover. Question is, who is Elliot's new partner? As you can tell, I do like this show. It keeps you engaged. And really! Who doesn't love Ice T?
NCIS
A RETURNING CBS show about the Naval Criminal Investigation Service. Stars the always wonderful Mark Harmon. I'll tell ya a little secret. When I was 9 years old, I fell in love with this really cute Dr. Unfortunately, he developed AIDS and had to be killed off St. Elsewhere. That's when my romance first started with Mark Harmon. And I still think he's a hottie! So even if this show was crap, I would still watch it. I just wouldn't recommend it to anyone. HOWEVER, NCIS is a really wonderful show. Lots of great chemistry between the stars. If you've ever watched it, you know my fave character is Anthony DeNozzo....the agent that relates everything to movies!
Dancing With The Stars
A RETURNING ABC show that has developed an amazing following. If you love dancing - either actually doing it or just watching it because you have no rhythm and two left feet (like me) - this show is for you. 10 celebrities are paired with professional ballroom dancers and they must compete every week to stay in the show. They only have 1 week to learn a new dance. I love this show...the judges are funny, can be a little critical, but not Simon Cowell-ish. Definitely worth watching, but I will warn you, it's two hours long!
House
A RETURNING FOX show about a cranky Dr with a highly developed God complex. However that complex is well deserved, as he is always right. The first time I ever saw Hugh Laurie (House) was in Sense and Sensibility. Hmmm....he played a cranky aristocrat. Isn't that funny? If you haven't watched this show, start immediately! That's all I'm going to say.
Law & Order:Criminal Intent
A RETURNING NBC show. One week features Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erb then the following week features Chris Noth and Annabella Sciorra. I will admit I did not watch it last night. It was VD'O and KE this week - I don't particularly like D'Onofrio's role. I really like him as an actor (I mean who couldn't love him as Bill in Mystic Pizza or even the bug in MIB), but his character in this show is just too over the top, not at all believable. I only watch it on the weeks with Chris Noth. I love his character. I was devastated when they wrote him off Law and Order and absolutely elated when they brought him back in this series. So, I guess I am saying I would recommend this show every other week.
Standoff
A NEW FOX show about negotiators. This is the name of the show that Princess likes(not The Negotiators) and I know she and I are going to disagree. This show. It's ok. But not good enough to keep me watching every week. I like Ron Livingston... in character roles, not leads. I don't particularly like Rosemarie DeWitt. She doesn't have that je-ne-sais-quoi to be a real leading lady. The story line doesn't grab you in that first two minutes, which is what you need to do to keep a viewer from changing the channel to another show. Particuarly when your show is new. To be honest, if there's nothing else on, I would recommend it. Otherwise, pass.

And that's it for today!

TV Trial Part 1

So this week marks the 'RUSH', the onslaught, of new and returning show premieres for most American networks. Because I am a freak of nature, I endeavour to watch each and every one of those shows. Almost. Since I do, I figured I would give you the lo-down on said shows.

I finally got through all the shows that I watched/taped last night (PS, I am seriously thinking of getting digital so I can have the time shifting channels, otherwise, I will be a zombie soon). And here is what I found:
The Class
A NEW CBS show from one of the writers of 'Friends'. I gotta say, not that bad. Made me laugh. Worth watching a few more episodes to see where it's going. It's only a half hour long. Airs twice: 8pm on CTV and 9pm on CBS.
Prison Break
A RETURNING FOX show. Last year ut was all about the breakout. This year it's all about the run. Very "Fugitive"-esque. And , of course, there's nothing wrong with an hour of Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller. Definitely worth picking up if you haven't already.
Smith
A NEW CBS show. Ray Liotta as Smith, a man with a double life: a married father of two and the head of a theft ring. IT SUCKED HAIRY BALLS! Excuse my French. It was aweful. I usually give a show a few episodes before making a pronouncement like that. But I just can't make myself sit through another hour of that SHIT.
Vanished
A NEW FOX show about a senator's wife that has been kidnapped. The show follows the FBI's search for her and all the secrets they uncover along the way. Definitely worth taking a look. Really grabs ya in the forst couple of minutes. Also stars Gale Herold, for all you 'Queer As Folk' fans.
Two and a Half Men
A RETURNING CBS show that stars two great actors of our adolescence: Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer. If you have never watched this show, I implore you to watch it! It's on at 10pm. These two are so funny! I think it's the combo of the writers AND these two actors that make this show work.
The New Adventures of Old Christine
A RETURNING CBS show from the second half of last season. I was never a fan of Seinfled, but I gotta say, Julia Louis Dreyfuss is pretty damn funny. This isn't a show I watch religiously, but I always enjoy it when I do.
CSI:Miami
A RETURNING CBS show. Most people know this show. And most people love it or hate it, depending on whether they like David Caruso. I can honestly say, I can't stand the guy. BUT I do like the show despite his best efforts to be in every single shot of the freakin episode. As much as I like this show, I wouldn't urge you to watch it if something better was on.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
A NEW NBC show starring Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford. This show is written by Aaron Sorkin, the man who brought us gems like 'The West Wing' and 'American President'. Perry and Whitford are a writer/director team who get hired to save the flagging SNL-like show called Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I was very pleasantly surprised to find this show entertaining. It isn't about the cheap laugh. This show relies on savvy dialogue for the perfect chuckle. I would seriously recommend this show.

And that's it for Monday... more shows are set to premiere in the next two weeks... how am I going to fit it all in?

More tomorrow, after I get everything watched.
