Buddy's Cat, Phanny

I'd like to introduce you to my cat, Buddy (the big black beast -nice alliteration, huh?) and Buddy's cat, Phanny.

These two are so funny! She follows him around like a little dog. They play together so well. He lets her chase him around, then turns around and chases her. He cleans her, like a momma cat.

And look at this! Cuddles. They are just too adorable!

Jobs

So, a few weeks ago I had a Stampin' Up! party. During the party, an old army buddy of Dad's called. He was in Oromocto for the night with his wife and granddaughter. He was really nice, asked about my grandparents, do we visit home anymore (that would be NFLD), do we keep in touch with 'Whalen" (Shelley's father-in-law, coincidentally), etc... I wish I could have talked to him more, but I was distracted and had a house full of women. He was from home, too (remember, NFLD) and had enlisted at the same time.

I told my sister a couple of weeks ago that he had called. She was like "oh really? Well, I'm glad I wasn't there. "

I said "Why? He was a nice man on the phone."

She says "Yeah." She pauses. " He called a few years ago. He was the one who told me what Dad did in the army."

"Really?"

" When he called, he was drunk because he'd just found out that Dad had died a few years before that. He went on about him being such a good friend and really, really good at his job in the army. I managed to get out of him exactly what Dad did. "

"Well? What did he do?"

Now, I'll pause here and ask:

Do you wanna know what my dad did in the army?

Really?

Honestly?

Well, this was my sister's response:

"Jeanette, he killed people."

"Honestly?"

"Really. He killed people for the army. And he was really good at it."

That's my dad!

A Whole New Look!

I figured it was time for a whole new look!

Really liked the whole 'by the sea' format. Seems appropriate for a Freddy Girl!

Word to the wise: if you plan on changing your format, YOU REALLY NEED TO DO THE FOLLOWING - go into Templates and COPY ALL THE CODE and paste it into notepad or something. That way you will be able to retreive your links, counters, etc... , copy and paste them into your new format, rather than doing it all from scratch. Take it from me - the person who just spent the last 30 minutes adding links, flickr, and a counter again.

Toodles!

How many men does it take to look at a fallen tree?

I've gotta ask. Why do men stand around and examine the remains of yard work?

Lauren and I came home this afternoon from the park to find Dave and Austin examining the remains of my trees in the corner of the yard.

And since I am a highly paranoid person, I am sure it wasn't a good convo they were having. Probably bashing my 'good neighbour quality'.

I am a very poor neighbour because:

  • I have cats that dig in other people's gardens - which is a crock of shit, cuz only one cat goes out anymore and she stays pretty close to the deck AND!!!!!! I FREAKIN WATCHED the gopher waddle across the street yesterday and make it's way home under Austin's shed!
  • I have dogs that always bark and jump at people on the other side of the fence - well, I have no defence of this other than they are conditioned to do so - since Austin's little shit grandson and his friends routinely tease them by poking them with sticks and throwing golf balls, hockey pucks, ice chunks, et al. at them.
  • And I don't 'manage' the trees on my property. Well, that's true. For the love o' God, Dave routinely prunes my cedar hedge! Otherwise, it just be a big old mess. Or gone. I would just hack them down. Have no patience for cedars.
Anyway, can you tell my meds are taking a while to kick in? Hehe.

The Movie Trailer

A word about the movie trailer I posted yesterday.

It's not a horror or thriller. It's about the Tipton Three and the basic human rights that were taken away from them, for NO LEGAL OR LOGICAL reason. What scares the crap out of me is that the general public isn't bothered by this kind of event. Maybe because they were Muslims?

If so, that kind of thinking is eerily like that of most by-standers when the Nazis were coming for the Jews. Most people had the attitude of 'hey, it's not me' (see the poem below). Until the Nazis finally came for them. Then there was no one left to fight back.

Am I likening the American government to the Nazis? Well, I wouldn't be the first! That comparison is becoming more and more prevalent. And I will be honest and admit that I did say just that when the American military invaded Iraq. And we all just stand by and watch what they do. And we do nothing. I'm ashamed to say that I am just as bad, because I'm one of those people who do or say nothing against the horrors the American government inflicts on people on a daily basis.

And that's enough from me, or I will start crying.

First They Came for the Jews

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

Pastor Martin Niemöller

The Nazis three biggest enemies were Jews, Communists, and Catholics.

The Road to Guantanamo Trailer

This movie trailer makes me cry every time I watch it. It's based on a true story. I'm sure come creative liberties were taken, but even if 1/10th of this movie is true ... well, it scares the crap out of me.

Trimming the Tree(s)!

I woke up this morning to 6 French guys in my backyard.

Unfortunately, they were only here to cut down some trees.

So this is the BEFORE picture!

Some trimming...

Guy to the right was really nice...hmmm, kinda flirty. Totally didn't pick up on it until too late. THIS is one reason why I am single. I just don't recognize when a guy may possibly be interested. Right over my head.

More trimming. And lots of guys standing around watching the trimming.

And there goes the cedar!

Guy on the left actually reminded me of Princess's father. So, I named this picture 'A Tall Alfie'.

As some of you might know, the wind was pretty high today. It took all of these guys to make sure the pine's fall path was in line with the directional cut they made.

TIMBER! Last tree to go in that corner!

Finally! After 5 years of waiting for NBPower to get off their duffs, the trees are gone!

The remains of the trees. Actually plan on taking the timber up to my grammy, so she can use it in her wood furnace. Or maybe "giving" it to Jimmy. Of course, He'd have to come get it himself...

Did you notice?

That Boogie was wearing a Dooce shirt on BB7 tonight?
